Incumbent Dianne Williams-Cox and former City Commissioner Dot Inman-Johnson are heading for a runoff this November in the race for City Commission Seat 5. The candidates took about 39% and 36% of the vote, respectively, beating opponent Tifany Hill, who received less than 24% of the vote.

Incumbent Williams-Cox says she hopes the runoff presents an opportunity to get her message deeper into the community and engage more voters.

“We’re going to continue to do what we've been doing,” she says. “Continue to do the work, and we’re gonna continue to inform and educate and engage with our community.”

Inman-Johnson says she plans to spend her time in the run-up to November raising awareness about issues she believes are important to the community.

I’ll be talking about the Lake Jackson annexation and that I do not support it,” she says. “I will be talking about what needs to be done for the homeless. Real issues. How we reduce the 25% poverty rate in this community. And though Tallahassee is aesthetically beautiful, we cannot celebrate until we are doing what we should do for all of Tallahassee’s citizens.”

Both candidates will appear on the general election ballot on November 3rd. Early voting will begin on October 24th.
